With these paintings I chose to focus on a shape, and let color and depth play with the space in the picture plane.
Color is as much a subject as shape, and I let myself explore incongruent or clashing color schemes sometimes in a unified field and sometimes surrounded by a sea of itself, or variations. I employed erosion and addition and layering to create depth or lack thereof.
As I worked on these over a period of years it was interesting to see emerge a very clear reflection of my own inner emotional state. Some are claustrophobic, and some are airy and light. Some heavy and dead, with no space at all, and some ethereal.
